The winning project, Foodabox is fully managed and run by a group of students from the Northern University of Malaysia. It focuses on creating a sustainable environment by replacing the harmful polystyrene boxes with its cheaper eco-friendly food boxes. The key to the low cost eco-friendly food packaging lies in advertising. Foodabox allows individuals or businesses to place their advertisements on the eco-friendly food boxes, directly reducing the costs of the eco-friendly food packaging. These boxes are then being sold to the food operators at a very low cost, encouraging more food operators to adopt the environmentally friendly business practices. This unique idea has won over the heart of the judges and other organizations. The Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Razak applauded the team’s effort in conserving and creating a sustainable environment for our future generations. According to the managing partner and co-founder of Foodabox, Dick Lim, his plan is to encourage more food operators to switch to the eco-friendly boxes. Advertising is one of the key components that acts as an incentive to make it happen.
